South Indian Wedding



South weddings always bring out us the picture of it traditional rituals and colorful celebrations. Right from the entrance of the marriage venue each and every place will be filled with colors and ultimate happyness. Though our current practices based on region and cast has changed our rituals, our veda's has listed out eight different types of marriage.

Brahma Marriage

This is one of the best marriage where two family meet together of same caste and creed, here the family of boy approaches the girls family and the main ritual is Kanyadhan that getting their daughter married to the boy. this marriage is not involved with dowry or any commercial aspect. the girl carries her self dresses and ornaments she posses.

Daiva Marriage

This marriage happen on the line of charity. In this situation if the parents of the girl is not able to marry their daughter due to poverty, then they seek the help of the religious people or rich people and they help the parents to finish the marriage. The marriage will not have any rituals or special celebration generally they arrange the marriage in any religious functions or darmasala. Vedas does not encourage this type of marriage but support it if the cause is genuine that is if the poverty is real not culpable.

Arsha Marriage

In this type of marriage the proposal is made from the side of the groom. Here he pays an price for the bride whom he wants to get married. In vedas it was a cow with calf or buffalo which changed on laterly but still the groom pays a preferred price to bring the bride to his home.

Prajapatya Marriage

This is marriage which takes place in the childhood of the bride and groom. Here in this marriage the bride is gifted to the father of the groom. The groom's father is responsible to take care of both the bride and groom till the grow old enough to manage their life.

Gandharva Marriage

This is a type of marriage where the boy and girl get married to each other without the knowledge of their parents, they only take in concern their love to each other. 

Asura Marriage

This is a marriage where the groom is no way suitable for the bride. But the groom is willing to marry the bride by giving many wealth and commercials to the parents of the bride.

Rakshacha Marriage

This is an abduction marriage, in this if the girl is willing to marry the groom but her family is against that the with the concern of the girl she may be abducted and married to the groom.

Paishacha Marriage

This is an unapproved marriage by veda and law. In this the bride is married to the groom when she is unconscious and unaware of her marriage.
